1. ABOUT EMPOWER AND THE COVID-19 AID FOR WASTE PICKERS CAMPAIGN
Inspired by the Norwegian plastic bottle recycling system, Empower tackles the global plastic crisis by building a blockchain-powered Platform to connect all the stakeholders of the plastic value chain with transparency and traceability.
By rewarding the act of depositing plastic, Empower incentivizes plastic waste collection in areas in great need, helps local communities overcome poverty by providing income opportunities, and uses blockchain to pave the way to a circular economy where plastic retains its value throughout various life cycles.
Covid-19 Aid for Waste Pickers is a campaign (“the Campaign”) to raise funds and provide relief for waste pickers across Africa. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, waste pickers are suddenly deprived of their work and daily income, resulting in massive consequences for a vulnerable group.
To address this issue, Empower is building a cleanup credit system giving verified local organisations the needed funding tool to provide urgent financial support to reclaimers during lockdowns, and at the same time connect this to future cleanup activity.
